Video Shell launches when I start Computer

I have a video shell, empty apparently that launches when I start the computer each time....

It is associated with the User Login.... I created a new user and this doesn't happen with the new user.

No login items I've cleared the user cache... what I get comfortable removing.... but the phantom video shell keeps popping up whenever I log in with my primary user...

I can close with no problem but I'm baffled because I can't trace down the problem and remove......

any suggestion appreciated....

What does it show as being in Activity Monitor? Also, do you CMD+Q the app or just close the window? If you CMD+Q it, what is the app name? Does it have an icon on the dock?

Since it happens with the primary user but not a different user (it appears you've done this, but just in case), check System Preferences -> Users & Groups, select the primary user, press on the "Login Items" tab and see if there is a program there that might be doing what you don't want. A program can also be started via the .bash_profile file. Start the Terminal program and at the command line type in "cat .bash_profile" (it may or may not exist). If you need to edit .bash_profile, it is a hidden file and you might have to take extra actions to edit it depending on which program you use to edit it.

If it's not there, it's possible that somehow your shell has been changed. Using the Terminal program, type in "echo $SHELL" and if doesn't come up with "/bin/bash", then it has a different shell and a different file to check for startup programs.

thanks to a suggestion from keysofanxiety, use the Activity Monitor, I minimized the 'shell video app' to launch the Activity Monitor.... after checking and finding nothing that looked guilty, I closed the Activity Monitor. When I pointed at the icon in the Dock of the empty video shell, the name of the application inside a URL popped up and I was able to identify the application... Voila, which is a video/image capture application.... apparently I inadvertently created a single frame capture from a video and for some reason this was launching when I logged into my computer... I deleted, closed Voila... restarted the computer and NO empty shell...
