Videos are a bit choppy or still motion?

This is my first 2nd Mac product besides 2 iPhones, and we just bought a new 27" iMac and have noticed that while viewing videos like Youtube or Hulu. The videos are choppy, almost like stop motion. It is kind of annoying and it kind of makes me dizzy watching videos.

I don't do a lot of video watching but have lately because of this nice new computer. I'm not sure it's my internet connection or the website, since I'm no expert but I have a 20meg connection with 10 upload which is not shabby.

What do you think is wrong.

Upgrade to 10.6.2 and you'll be good to go. This phenomenon is a well-documented software bug present in 10.6.1 only.

I have the latest update and I noticed it before the update. I didn't think that update was to fix anything that had to do with still frame video. Now I must add that I say "still frame" video but there's only a hint of it as people or objects are moving. It's not like slow motion still frame, it's almost as like 1/8 motion, but maybe not even that much.

It's very hard to describe but I can add that I think it's not "fluid" enough. I've watched the same video on my 13" Macbook Pro and the videos play fluid, unlike the 27" iMac.

Both computers have the latest updates.

I also have a 13" MBP, and my Mac began showing the same symptoms just after purchasing a Magic Mouse, and downloading/installing the wireless mouse update.

What fixed mine was unpairing the mouse from the laptop using the bluetooth devices menu, or turning bluetooth off altogether.

Otherwise, with the mouse paired, the whole system would slow down, and one irritating symptom would be that all flash video would show the same choppiness that you describe.

Of course, the laptop has a trackpad, but in order to remove your mouse from your system you'd need a USB mouse.

It wouldn't hurt to experiment to see if this helps... Remember that restarting the iMac will always return it to normal, but the slowdown will return within an hour or two.

It's not certain that Apple fixed this particular bug in 10.6.2, but people are reporting that the update fixed the symptoms (the ones you describe) in their iMacs.

Sooner or later it will be fixed.
