View OS X Scheduled Tasks - How to?

At around 2:45am every day, some sort of scheduled task is running on my system. Whatever this task is, it is either reading from, or writing to the hard drive, and for several minutes, the system becomes sluggish, with very slow response to clicking on anything, and beachballs. Once the task ends, the system returns to normal.

How can I find out what tasks are scheduled to run at different times, on OS X Yosemite? I've tried Googling for the answer to this, but this mainly brings up things about Automator, or other apps that can actually schedule tasks using launchd, etc, rather than listing existing scheduled system tasks. So not really helping.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Open Console app from /Applications/Utilities and look at the log from that time and see what it says.

It's likely the OS X maintenance scripts that run silently in the background. Maintenance scripts run on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. If your Mac is in sleep mode at the scheduled time, the scripts will run the next time your Mac is awake. If your Mac is shut down at the scheduled time, the scripts won't run until the next scheduled time. If your Mac is always shut down at those times, the scripts will never run, unless you manually run them or change the default schedule. You can display the last time the scripts were run, or manually run the scripts using the Maintidgit widget.
