Happy 2019 everyone!

I have Leica M6 TTL with 0.58 magnification. The viewfinder works well when wearing glasses and using a 35mm lens. However, using a 50mm lens isn't working too well.

If I use Leica's 1.4x viewfinder magnifier, that'll change the magnification of my M6 from 0.58 to 0.812. Will this make it easier to use the 50mm lens?

Also, Leica's viewfinder magnifier is quite pricey even in used condition. Are there any alternatives to Leica that are high quality?

Thanks!

Hi,

I use a Match Technical E-Clypse on an M9 and a MM. The Leica magnifiers are pricey as you say but using a magnifier helps me a lot. I was absolutely rotten at focussing my 90mm on the M9 but with the magnifier I get a lot more keepers so it is great. I am not sure about the M6 and 1.4x combination but the M9 and 1.25x is spot on for my general 28,35,50 use.

Hope this helps.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I checked Match Technical E-Clypse and it looks like they have 1.45x viewfinder magnifier with diopter. That'll change the magnification of my M6 from 0.58 to 0.841, which is very close to their 0.85 magnification M6 model.

Your M9 has 0.68 magnification. With 1.25x magnifier, that changes the magnification of your M9 from 0.68 to 0.85.

I'm going to try out the 1.45x magnifier and see how it works. Thanks again.

Excellent! be sure to check back here and let me know. My focussing accuracy has improved a lot since using it and I do use it for the 50 too - just because I am lazy to take it back off. ha ha
