viewing PDF files?

Or, you can e-mail them to yourself as an attachment. You will be able to open and view them then.

btw, what kind of pdfs are you looking to view? Scientific articles?

What do you mean? What joke? We are just saying for you to download the PDF to a PC/Mac and send it to your email as an attachment. Then you can open it on your "Mail" app on your iPhone and view the PDF

The line about Scientific Articles. I also thought it was a joke that I didn't understand.

In case you still don't get it, it's like someone asking "How do I make call on the phone?" and someone saying "You wouldn't be calling a movie theater, would you??"

It's like, what does that mean? Is it a joke? Why ask that?

I dunno, all I can say is that I was with the O.P. in thinking that 'Scientific Articles' was some kind of in-joke I didn't know about.

This is what I do. I e-mailed myself a couple of PDFs that I reference frequently (like Chicago Subway maps) and when I need them, I just pop open mail and view them that way. You only have to download them to the phone once.
 
This is exactly why the iPhone needs a file management app. Let you store .doc's, .xls, .pdf's, etc. and not have to use work arounds. Just let us copy the files directly to the iphone (or download off a website).

No, this was no joke at all. I have hundreds of medical articles in pdf form on my Powerbook. I organize them with a program called Papers, which acts like an iTunes for all your pdf articles. Theoretically, any pdf can be placed into it and viewed with this organizational program, but it is geared more towards the scientific (there's that funny word again) community.

Now I say all of this because the same makers are coming out with an iPhone app that will sync with your desktop Papers program. This will make your iPhone able to carry around hundreds of nicely organized pdfs and it includes a pdf viewer. This should be coming out in 1-2 months.

This is true, it really does need this - a native app though. Many of us have also been using a file storing app like Airsharing. With this, you can wirelessly get files (pdf's if you want) and have them saved/stored on your iPhone (in the Airsharing app). You can also view these files, even pdfs, from Airsharing.
