VIPs in Mac Mail missing on my ML!

I downloaded ML yesterday with no problems, except one. I don't have a VIP list in Mail, even though I use iCloud mail. There is no way to star for me, and no list under "Mailboxes". Does VIPs not work on my Mid 2010 MPB? Or is there a simple fix that I'm missing?

Hover over the from address in a message and a clickable star will appear to the left of it.
