I have been reading the rumors on 9to5 mac and they seem very suspisious, in terms of detail and including pictures which lead me to belive that they are a viral marketing campain set up by Apple or for Apple or in some way affilieted with Apple.

I have collected some evidence that might confirm whether it is:

1. The WHOIS Registrant Contact is: Quincy Pince-Nez and he has a WHOIS address at; 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA 90210; now whist these can easily be changed but it could of been a detail overlooked.

2. The photos that appered of the iPod nano seem stange since there are rarey cameras let in to areas where unannounced products are being designed or tested.

3. Continually having correct details/specs on upcoming/unannounced products.

4. The website is hosted in California, US.

5. Also they never say anything that could seriously damage Apple Earnings etc.

This is the evidence I have collected. I have come to the conclusion that if not run by or for Apple then they could have a special 'unoffical' relationship with the site.

Anyway thats 10mins wasted, for me at least...:)

interesting theory. I'm also quite surprised with how accurate 9to5Mac seems to be. I mean, how does an almost brand new mac site gain access to apple that multiple rumor sites that have been around for years cant seem to get? I mean, maybe they just know someone higher up. I dont know...it does seem to take all the fun out of keynotes when we already know everything thats going to happen.

Why would Apple, a company norotious for going after rumor sites, start theie own?

At that point, why wouldn't they just leak info to established sites?

I just don't see what the motivation would be...

I don't think it's that suspicious for a "new" site to have an accurate source. If I met someone at a party who was willing to share inside Apple info with me, I might be inclined to start my own rumors site. Perhaps their source is also the founder (or a partner) of the site. There's some pretty good money to be made on the advertising side of things.

Just guessing.

Control...duh

Make your own rumor site that suddenly becomes a star because of the best pictures and most correct hints.

Get established and quoted constantly by the real media. Attention is drawn.

Buy on margin, release a truly fake story.

Pump and Dump.

Perhaps not apple themselves, maybe a soon to retire group of employee's? (Hence 9to5 mac)
They could have already been playing the market with the real stuff

The website is quite sloppy. Like, anyone with an ounce of knowledge could whip up something better in 5 minutes. I think that you might be on to something there, as I almost feel like it's been designed on purpose to look bad.

or someone's about to get fired reaaaaaaal soon!

I hadn't thought about that but that would explain how they have been so accurate lately, isn't it close to 100% accurate.

from the moment i heard about it..i thought the exact same thing

there is no way a source this accurate would just randomly pop up out of nowhere without some pretty heavy ties with apple. This source is really the most accurate source out of them all and it's been around for a relatively short time.

Honestly..it just makes sense from apple. This way..they can leak whatever they want whenever they want to. It makes for good publicity and you can test your products on the public before release.

fwiw, I'm confident they are not a front for apple.

Yeah, but where's the control?

They're not behaving any differently than any other rumor site; it's not like the other sites slander Apple and try to hurt the company; almost all of them are huge Mac Geeks, as well!

And even the accuracy thing isn't that suspicious - there were times in the past when other sites have gone through equally hot streaks...

90210 is the zip code for Beverly Hills, California. the zip code for 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, is 95014. Cupertino is roughly 350 miles northwest of Beverly Hills.
