I am starting bookkeeping for a tractor trailer driver that uses software called Load Ledger which is only available for PC. I installed Virtual PC and the Load Ledger software but I am not able to open a file (ie backup disk) on the virtual pc. I am taking this over from someone that already has the company started and I don't want to retype everything.

I saved the file on a disk but my computer wouldn't even recognize the information on the CD, I got an error saying it couldn't read it. I tried emailing myself the file from the pc and that didn't work either. It ask me what application I wanted to use to open the file but I can't chose the Load Ledger.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks

I don't understand why it wouldn't recognize the file on the CD.

As far as the emailed copy, save the file to your hard drive, wherever you want.

In VPC, look around for a "****** Settings" item in the "Edit" menu, where ****** is the name of your Win computer in VPC. In the window that opens, look for "Shared Folders." Within that, you'll want to share the file (folder) that you saved the emailed file in. That shared file/folder will now show up on your windows machine as a networked drive, with a letter near the end of the alphabet designating it.

I hope that wasn't too unclear...

The only problem(s) I have ever had that resembled your situation is because of the windows os. I have xp installed on vpc. If I try to open a filed from a disk created from '98 I get the same error. Funny thing is I have never had a prob with a disk created in osx to xp in vpc. Can you drag n drop the file from osx into vpc. This has worked for me in the past.

Still Trouble

I have tried a couple things now. I updated my VPC because it was saying that my shared folder was not installed, but the update didn't do it either.

I have tried to drag and drop with no success.

I even tried to get on the internet from the VPC side and couldn't. My plan was to upload to a website and then download from there into VPC, but I couldn't get online. Are you able to get online on the VPC side, and if so how?

I have not yet upgraded the Windows 98. I plan on doing that next and maybe that will do it. Maybe the 98 is my trouble.

Thanks

I did a fresh install a while ago and reinstalled vpc. I was unable to connect with vpc 6. Only until I upgraded to 6.1 from the ms update could I connect. Have you installed the update from ms?

I upgraded to 6.1 today and still nothing. I am going to upgrade from Win 98 and hopefully that will do it. That or try and figure how to get online on the VPC side.
