virtual pc question

as i am typing, i am installing virtual pc 6 with windoze xp, and i am noticing it is ridiculously slow... i looked up the specs and it is emulating a pentium 2 processor

is it possible for connectix to ever get to the point where vpc uses all your system power so that vpc runs at the speed your mac does...

just wondering... wow this a lot of work to be able to use kazaa (yes i know about neo)

Word of advice, when running XP under VPC turn off ALL eye-candy

thats what i was thinking... now i will definitely do it. I have all the eyecandy i need in 10.2, i dont need microsoft's lame attempt

Even if it was, I doubt it would happen...not now that Microsoft own them M$ have close relationships with Intel, AMD, Dell, HP etc. and none of them would be to pleased if Mac lovers around the world could run M$ software without the need to spend money on x86 hardware.

BTW: i was looking at your homepage (sorry to see your mini like that) does your pioneer plasma display hook to you mac? if so, have you tried and how does it look???

What processor Virtual PC is emulating has nothing to do with what speed it is emulating the prcoessor at.

There is a noticable difference running Virtual PC on a 800 MHz G4 and on a Dual 1.42 GHz system.

VirtualPC will use what resources it can. You question makes little sense.

All i know is i have a dual 867 and a gig of RAM, and it runs painfully slow, even after i jacked up all its resources

You're obviously not technical in this field, so putting it in terms of simple analogies (and therefore probably not correct):

When they say VPC is emulating a P2 processor, that doesn't mean it's by definition an old slow set up. Clearly, there's no p2 hardware on you're Mac - it just means it converts the PPC instructions into P2 instructions and back again. Think of it like a modem, between your computer and phone line.

There's a couple of reasons why it's always going to be slow, the way it currently works. Think of it like this, you've got an operating system (OSX) then a "modem"(VPC) then another OS (Windows) which is a dog then an application (and all the way back again). Does it sound like that application's going to run fast?

Secondly, Connectix have always said they don't fully understand exactly how all the innards of Windows works, so VPC's got many work arounds, which are undoubtedly less efficient. Which is why it is conceivably possible that the purchase by MS coould result in some speed gains in future releases.
