virus protrction or not?

New to mac and I would like to know if its suggested that you run virus protection or should I be scanning for spyware with my mac? :confused:I dont have wndows on it and use it for basic web stuff i.e bloggs ect.. Its fast and I dont want to slow things down if I dont have to. About the only program I use to clean things up is cocktail.
 
macs are universally known to be virus-free. i don't think you'll have to worry about anything unless you're running windows on your mac, too.
 
If you are running Windows, your ISP may provide free virus protection software. Comcast Cable provides McAffe Security Center. If not, Avast is a free client that is pretty good.
 
I use ClamXav just because I always use protection. The only malware it ever caught it phishing emails. Mow that my ISP filters I really don't expect it to find anything.

This is like moving from a wooden house to one made of concrete and asking what to do about termites. Yes there are people willing to take your money and sell you "termite protection" but you would do fine to keep your money.

The need for this kind of stuff should be an embarrassment to Microsoft.
 
Thnxs I dont plan on running windows until the new op comes out and then I will run protection. But I did not want to run it now and was concerned about spyware. Thnxs:D
 
I go by the old saying, "Better safe than sorry".

On my iBook, I have Norton installed on it.

Though I will be switching to the free ClamXav since the Norton subscription is up.
