How long does it take most folks to reboot from OS X to Vista (I'm running Vista 64 Home Premium, if that makes a difference)?

I'd read somewhere that Vista booted faster on a Mac Pro than a lot of Windows machines, but it takes my new Mac Pro (1x2.8ghz 4-core) forever to reboot - probably along the lines of five minutes (I'll time it tonight).

Is that normal?

I removed my Vista Boot Camp because it seemed to be a complete FAIL at rebooting. It'd just go to a blank screen, and I'd wait about 3-4 mins before getting frustrated and forcing a boot. It wouldn't seem to switch the startup disk using the Control Panel extension in Windows either.

Meh, better off without it.

The first time I rebooted, I thought it had failed. I had a blank screen for several minutes. Finally, I get a large blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner, then the screen goes blank again. About the time I'm ready to give up and force a shut down, the microsoft progress bar shows up.

Slow as molasses, but speedy once it actually boots.

Hi,

From restarting in Mac OS till log-in screen in Vista Ultimate x64 = 1 min 12 sec. Timed only once, but I think it's quite a normal time. About a minute let's say.

I timed it last night, and it took more than five minutes from shut down in OS X to the Windows login screen.

Any idea why it could be taking so long?

My Macbook (first gen) boots Vista (32-bit only, Core Duo) quite fast. I'd say if it's taking a very long time then there is something wrong with your install or set up. There is a program called bootvis for XP which allows you to see why it is taking so long to boot, I'll have to see if there is a vista version.

About a minute if the Apple firmware decides to work.

When it doesn't work, I have to kill the power to start vista up.

Stupid Apple, where did their "quality" products disappear to?

macpro 2008 (8x2.8), 16gb memory

boot time from osx into vista ultimate 64bit about 28-30 sec.

never installed bootcamp, just put a new hard drive in bay 4, pulled the osx drive from bay one and booted from the vista dvd drive.

when vista was installed, I installed the 64bit drivers, turned off the computer and put the osx drive back in

hope this helps

Colin.

My machine clearly takes too long to boot into Vista. I'm supposing that Apple phone support won't cover that. Any idea where to go to look for answers?

Thanks.

If you can you should try a format reinstall of your vista partition. If you used bootcamp then use it to remove and then recreate a windows partition and reinstall.

Also it might be worth your while upgrading your firmware if applicable.

I'm assuming it takes 5 minutes after you choose windows from the boot menu you get when you hold alt (option) on boot. If so it might be worth reading this
