I have installed Vista Ultimate on a 40gig partition on my 24inch iMac it works a treat it is truley stunning but takes about twise as long as OS X to boot :p and so far it seems stable and gaming has been top notch on very high resolutions with most settings maxed out.

now can i use a external to install programs and games onto and will it run okay as long as i get a decent firewire HD (any recomendations) and also store videos on and then be able to watch them on either OS X or Vista with no problems?

oh and i didnt have any driver problems apart from the IR remote and iSight i think XP drivers worked. :D

I'm afraid I think it may be the same as on WinXP...

As far as i'm aware you'll have to use this method. Which will be VERY hard with an iMac as compared to a Macbook...

Hopefully someone can prove me wrong.

EDIT: ooh...actually reread your post (sorry it's getting late/early here...), Videos and Music should be fine, apps i'm not sure about.

You can install applications just fine on an external drive. Keep in mind that certain parts of the application may still install on the internal disk. I have done this numerous times with Windows installations without ill effects.
