Vista Business vs Vista Home Premium

I can get either the Business or Home Premium editions of Vista for the same, relatively cheap price. I need to run Windows on my MBP for just a few applications, nothing especially fancy. Which version of Windows should I buy? Does it make a difference?

Basically, it seems to me that I wouldn't use any of the "special" media-related features of Home Premium, since OS X can do those better, right? On the other hand, some of the Business features sound interesting, particularly the faxing capabilities, and the ambiguously labeled "Protect against hardware failure".

Ok, so which version?

Home Premium, if it has the ability to play dvds.

Business doesn't have any media codecs whatsoever. So you can't play dvds on it out of the box.

It doesn't seem like such a big thing, but to me it's enough to warrant the Home Premium version.

Business = domain access, security goodies
Home Premium = burning DVD movies, media center

I'd go with Business in your case as you've already stated.

Really? By not out of the box, I assume you mean you can install something to play DVDs?

TBH I would just get Basic. All that comes with the rest is some fancy crap no one ever uses.

The "protect against hardware failure" is basically Windows Backup and Restore Center. It's kind of similar to Time Machine (and before anyone mentions how "Microsoft ripped it from Mac," it's basically shadow copy that was present in Windows Server 2003). It's not the same thing as system restore though.

As far as the faxing stuff, I really don't know anything about that.

I do have Vista Business though, but I got it for free through my school and MS themselves.

Home Premium is what you want. Basic is VERY basic. I'm sure you might have looked at this already, but here's a comparison:

You can install a 3rd party solution which normally isn't free, or buy the codecs from Microsoft.
