Vista on 24" iMac - No problems...

Could not install R51 for some reason, but R52 (5744) installed with no probs. Created a 40GB partition from Boot Camp, and booted off the ISO DVD I made from Toast. Didn't have to delete the EFI partition as some had to do, nor did I have to repair from the Vista install DVD. Even had ethernet and video drivers. Very cool - got a 4.5 rating, so I can run Aero easily (duh - 7600GT 256MB). If this is what Leopard will look like (actually using the GPU) I can hardly wait..

p.s. Vista gives you a rating based on the lowest score - not the average. So I wonder if the bottleneck is memory (1.5GB), or the speed of it (laptop mem...)

there was RC1, and there is RC2, there is NO RC51 or 52

there has been many reports saying that RC1 and RC2 will run fine on bootcamp, without deleting EFI or do anything weird to the installation disk

however, did you get your isight work? how's bluetooth and all that?

Ha - yes I corrected... haven't checked iSight though - not really a big deal to me right now/ not using bluetooth.

I decided to give Vista RC1 a try. So this weekend I installed it on my current PC at home. These are some of my first impressions:

• Vista gave my PC a score of 1. Well pretty much everything was at 4 and 5 except the graphic card wich is a slow and old ati radeon 7000. So I did not get the nice animations and stuff.
  
• Performance wise it feels a bit slower than XP. It did not recognize my ethernet card so I had to connect to my cable modem via USB.
  
• Vista asks for you permission for about everything you want to do (installing and running programs) it gets very annoying, fortunately, you can change that.
  
• I had to get used to the new file structure... not sure yet if I like it or not.
  
• UI seems a bit confusing. For example if I click on the shutdown icon and my PC goes to sleep... I dont want that, I want it turned off.
  
• We all know that windows has tried to copy the mac OS, but stealing one of MacOS wallpapers (the one with the pebbles) is just to much.

Yah that shutdown button got me at first too. I didn't even see the smaller tab next to it for a while. I would say the best part of Vista is the graphic eye candy. I am running it on Parallels too (no Aero), and it looks sad compared to the full Aero version. Opening windows etc is very fast on my 24" iMac...
