What do you guys recommend for bootcamp. Money is very much an issue, but i see that either XP home or Vista home can be urchased for about the same price. In fact Vista home professional I saw cheaper than XP.

I'm getting tired of onl being able to play WC3. I'd like to have the option to install windows only programs.

Is it true that drivers are difficult on boot camp? Why is this?

Not all programs will work on Vista. The reason why it could've been cheaper is because more people want to buy XP, so its harder to find.

Stick with XP. Vista is crap.

my personal preference is XP for no reason other than I like it better.

It seems you're looking for more compatibility, which ironically Vista won't give you. Your best off with XP. Especially with SP3 so close by.

Another vote for XP (32 bit version - don't bother with 64-bit) - it's significantly faster than Vista.

I got Vista Ultimate from my school for about 30 dollars and if there were ever a purchase i regretted, it would be that one. Vista is definitely not good enough for just about anything I can think of, other than looking pretty.

Thanks for the help so far!

Can boot camp take adantage of the 64 bit operating sytem? (I know OSXis 64 bit but I was unsure about running windows through boot camp.

Also, does directX10 make a difference?

Go with XP. It's even about the get updated with another service pack to make it better. Vista is a slug right now.

I used to have XP but recently switched to a stripped-down Vista (via vLite) for the benefit of DirectX 10.

I was a complete DUMBASS and bought Vista Ultimate earlier last year. And then I had all sorts of issues and had to eventually do a dual boot w/ XP and Vista so I could game on the XP partition. From that, I missed XP and it's decent performance so much I dumped Vista, sold that P.O.S. on Craigslist for $150 to a guy that upgrades his entire computer each year (which is what's required to run Vista with any precision), and went back to XP.

However, here I sit...waiting for the new MBPs so I can have fun in OSX instead and have XP as my Windows install for the few things I'll still need on it.

Short answer: XP.

I faced this a couple of months ago. Chose XP for 2 reasons. The software I needed to run worked on XP and wasn't offically supported on Vista.
The other reason was that Vista recommended a partition size of 40GB. That's a lot for a laptop with a 160GB drive in it. Plus I didn't need that much windoze space to do what I had to do. Decided on a 16GB partition...

I find this all pretty interesting... Seems I'm the only one happy with Vista, haha.

DirectX 10 = Halo 2 and a slightly prettier Bioshock. I've run Bioshock of both XP and Vista and don't hesitate to say it actually runs BETTER on Vista.

XP. Vista is XP pretty much, just fancier with some more bells and whistles, plus an annoying virus pop up detector.

XP all the way.
