Hi all,

I recently install Vista with the bootcamp drivers on my MacBook.
It now shows up as using 14.5GB or 15GB!

Surely this is incorrect for a standard install of Home Premium?
I checked the windows folder under c: and it's 11GB!

how do you guys think i can reduced the size?

Holy F$ck?

It's normal for Vista to take up 15GB?
I'm sure before the installed the drivers and updates it was around 8GB and therefore I thought I could shrink it.

Two things helped me free up a lot of space

1) Delete system restore points. (It creates one every time you install s/w updates)
2) Disable thumbnail cache

Try running disk cleanup as well.

Thanks Zer0, that off loaded a ton of space.

Deleting Vista is about the best thing that you can do to save space.

The easiest way to get more? Get an NTFS write support program for OS X. Go into the Windows partition HDD from OS X. Go to your programs folder and delete everything that isn't a driver.

Instead of magically reinstalling everything (which it would if you deleted the programs from within Windows), Windows operates as though they were never there.

Try to perform lesser installations and uninstallations!
If you dig in your Windows folder in C: you'll find a folder called 'Winsxs'
This folder is responsible for Vistas so called backward compatibility and App fluidity! It maintains a copy of all the dll files ever installed on the system! So once you install something heavy.... you'll notice that the folder has swollen but when you uninstall it.... the folder will NOT shrink to its original size as it'll keep a copy of some files which it reckons as important!
