I love the phone, but the Visual Voice Mail sound recording is HORRIBLE. It is super compressed and does not sound natural whatsoever. It sounds like a bad synthetized sound from the mid 80s. It sounds even worse when someone leaves you a message using his/her speakerphone with a noisy background.

I understand that the file must be small to be able to download it quickly to the phone, but at this quality is a joke. I would love to have the option of accessing voicemail the regular way (in addition to VVM) and listen to it with better quality.

Quality all over the phone but VVM sucks???
Come on Apple!!!

Welcome to the EDGE network. If it was EVDO, the files would be CD quality. ATT had to trim d/l bandwidth somewhere, so we get swishy voicemails. It sure is neat though. :(

No offense, but what's the point of voicemail? To get the message, right?

As long as the message is clear and understandable, does it really matter how tinny or antique it sounds?

I think its clear. Are you trying to play your voicemails through your ipod on your shuffle, just to mix things up? Relax, its just voicemail. Get your message and delete it!

While i agree with what you are saying in theroy. And i dont expect or care for CD quality.

Some of my messages have sounded almost un hearable. I mean tis bad enough sometimes that they are on a cell in a noisy area too. So the quality needs to be increased a bit.

I don't agree with you guys. If Apple spend the time to make this phone top notch why give it bad voicemail recording sound?

It is a fact that Apple has always been proud of supporting great sound on all of their products just as much as their graphic interface.

If someone you love (mother, spouse, child, grandparent, friend) leaves you a message; Do you want to listen to it clearly or robotized? If you really don't care, then you should also be ok with pixelated / blury pictures of your family to have around.

Has anyone gotten a response from apple about this? I figured it was everyone but if some are not having the issue I'm curious as to by the deal is.

Great news for you then! This feature is not as publicized but You can press and hold 1 on the keypad screen to get to voice mail the old way. Also You can press and hold on the voicemail icon. See my thread on accessing Voice Mail the regular way. Pressing and holding 1 is bascially the universal way to get to voicemail if all other methods fail ;)

yeah, mine sounds crappy too... wish it was better quality. but like people have said... it's only voicemail so i'll put up with it.

no big deal to me, and I'm a sound engineer. For vvm, if I can understand the message, it's good.
