I am new to VisualHub and wanted to encode movies to .mp4 format for ATV
from VIDEO_TS files. I can't figure it out how do I start the process.

When I open VH, it says "Drag the files to be converted below", but I can drag VIDEO_TS folder in there for encoding?

Can somebody give me few step by step instructions on how i can encode?

BTW, I am trying with trail version s/w.

Thanks.

If you are trying to encode DVDs... (with VIDEO_TS folders)... use Handbrake instead. It's free.

Get it Here

I agree. Use handbrake. It even has an :apple:TV preset as well as an iPod preset too. Very easy to use. When it asks you to chose a file, just chose the video_TS folder and you're all set.

To answer your question, you can drag and drop the VIDEO_TS or the "root" folder into the Visual Hub window.

I am a proud owner of this software. I use it to transcode, stitch together two-sided DVDs, and for the occasional AppleTV h.264 to iPhone H.264.

I have never used it instead of Handbrake. Handbrake is the one piece of software where free is no indication of the quality of the product. Most products have a 1:1 relationship where Free = Junk. Handbrake is the direct inverse.

Use it.

Also, Handbrake puts AC3 (5.1 stereo) into the MP4 container in the same manner that Apple uses for their HD rentals. Initially, VisualHub required you to put AC3 into a .MOV container, which MetaX cannot add tagging information too. I don't know if VH has been updated to create AC3 MP4 files yet.

Generally, people use Handbrake for DVD rips, and VH for transcoding files that have already been encoded (bit torrent downloads, etc).

That's weird, I've tagged 10+ movie encodes from VH with the extension .mov, it works flawlessly, as they've added that feature.

And there's no benefit of a .mp4 over a .mov, it's just a container. They all play the same.

I used to use HandBrake but I find that I get exceptional quality from VH using the "Go Nuts" setting, with faster encode times versus Handbrake.

Thanks a lot for your response. I just dragged my VIDEO_TS and finally it detected. I am doing the encoding now. I will see how it goes.

For others who recommended me to use HB, I have been using HB for that last year or so and it was very good until they came up with 0.9.2 with 5.1 upgrade.

I have lots of DVDs (international movies) which I started re-encoding with 5.1 and lots of those have 'Audio sync' problems with Video for few seconds. I see many of those DVDs in issue with HB 0.9.2. I reported to Handbrake forum and they aware of that issue but couldn't wait any more to encoding rest of my stuff so I am exploring VisualHub.

I am not sure why not many have seen Audio sync issues with HB but many in forum (handbrake) reported that they also seen audio sync issues with few Hollywood movie DVDs.

So, in summary, at this time, even if i have to pay few bucks but gives me good encoding is great for me.

Thanks.

Would you be so kind as to illustrate how to stitch (2) video_ts folders for playback on a single DVD?
