VisualHub on "All Devices" Setting: Should I use h.264 if I mainly watch on my MBP?

I want to convert my video files so they'll play on my iPod Classic, iPhone, future Apple TV (soon) and on my Mac. If I mainly plan to watch the videos on my MacBook Pro, do I need to use h.264? The description on Visual Hub says it'll look better on a smaller screen, and I believe it: The videos look blocky on my MBP. I'm not expecting super clarity, but if anyone could shed light on this feature I'd be very grateful.

yes of course you should use h.264!!! its much more futureproof than the other codecs and it looks way better, that is if you can spare the extra time and the space.

The source vids aren't that great quality to begin with; they were good for 2003-2004. The files are waaay larger than they should be, so I'm actually trying to shrink my collection using VisualHub's max filesize feature. I'm certainly willing to put in the time, but space may be a problem.

oh well thats kinda a problem then.

i would still recommend using h.264.

try a few trial conversions on the same file and see how you go.

Is "All Devices" setting pretty much the same as "iPod High" settings? I use the Elgato turbo.264 set to "iPod High" to convert all my tv shows so that I can watch them on my iPod or my TV. Does VisualHub do anything special with it's version of "All Devices" compared to this?
