Never really had much of a problem with VLC for many years.

For some reason, every time I open it now, I'll get 2 pop ups, which I thought you could switch off somewhere or other. The check for updates you could turn off, but it doesn't make any difference, I also turned off the menu bar icon thing and that also comes back. All google searches show dated instructions of prefs that aren't there now.
'Don't check/No thanks', will still enable this to come on with every single use.

You may need to remove the app and delete the preferences, and then reinstall everything. I think the preferences are stored at:

Hopefully a reinstall fixes it.
Thanks, there doesn't seem to be any preferences for them to tick off, The status menu icon is on first page and that always resets itself when I turn it off, and comes back, so assume that's what the others are doing too, but can't find the option? I'll delete. Are there any other apps who do the job better than VLC?
