I tried to play VIDEO_TS files that I ripped from MacTheRipper with VLC but theres no audio.
What player do I need in order to watch the movie right from the hard drive?

my experience with VLC was the first time i used it itmade my powermac stop making noise... at all, the internal speaker, headphone port, and speaker port all went dead, then i searched around on google for a while and found an answer, this not only fixed my mac back from what VLC did, but it also got VLC to output audio correctly, see if this sint your problem aswell. search around on google a bit for vlc having audio problems.

im also pretty sure DVD player can open video_ts folders.

Thanks punkbass25,

When I play .wmv in VLC full screen mode I keep getting this error messege after a few minutes of playing.
"main: decoder is leaking pictures, resetting the heap
main: picture 0x220ab7c refcount is -1"
If I just ignore it, it will eventualy crash unless if I switched it back to normal mode.

VLC can't handle PCM or DTS audio tracks (I know because some of my music DVDs have uncompressed audio only and no AC3).

DVD Player can handle PCM audio though.

I'll assume you're using a G5, cause thats probably the issue. It has been documented (on macrumors at least) that there is a compatibility issue. You need to go into the preferences in VLC and go to audio device or something and make it -1. Thats from memory, but if you search around the answer will come to you.
