I have a Macbook Pro that I bought in 2014. It came with Mavericks installed and I never bothered to update the system until last year when the hard drive crashed and I had to reinstall everything. I have Sierra now. Before the crash/update, I was able to play DVDs from any region using VLC, but after the update VLC doesn't recognize foreign DVDs at all. Sometimes when I put a DVD in, the DVD player prompts me to switch the region of the drive, but most of the times it just ejects the DVD back out after a few seconds. Why does VLC no longer work? I am suspecting that it has to do with the system update, but I can't be sure. Has anyone had the same issue? I have tried downloading a number of older versions of VLC and a few other players that are supposed to be "regionless," but no luck so far. I also have LIBDVDCSS downloaded, but it doesn't seem to help my issue. Anyone knows how I can play foreign DVDs without switching the region of the drive?
