Hey guys, I'm used to use MPC to play my TV Shows and movies but lately I got a MacBook Pro and people told me to use VLC. Well since i'm portuguese i often need to use subtitles and MPC got them automatically when i opened the file. Does VLC do the same or do i need to get the subtitles and the movie in one folder with the same name in order to watch it with subtitles?

The subtitles can be in any folder. Go to "Video" in the vlc menu bar and select "Subtitles Track" in the drop-down menu.

ye like they said above if the original file came with subtitles built in or with an .srt with it just open the movie normally and on the tool menu bar just hover over video then go to subtitles and select one or disable it

:apple:

If I'm using VLC, I keep subtitles in the same folder as my movies, with the same file name, and VLC finds them automatically. However, if you have a lot of movies and TV shows, you may want to look into Plex as a tool for managing and playing them. I've been very pleased with it, and rarely use VLC anymore.

Well what's the main difference between Plex and VLC? Organization?

for local computer usage i find using plex is pointless and uses way too many resources. it looks pretty but thats about it.

plex output to a TV on the other hand is awesome. (although i use xbmc)

Plex will automatically download metadata, artwork and subtitles, and provides a great interface for browsing and playing your media. You can also build a library of movies and TV shows from files stored on multiple computers and drives on a network, and play those videos on any computer or TV connected to the network.

Plex Media Center is the "back end" that manages your library. Plex Player is what plays them. Read the information on naming your files properly so Plex will identify them accurately. In some cases, it doesn't find subtitles. In those cases, I can usually find them on opensubtitles.org.

Yes, the Player is included when you install the Media Center. Your preferred language for audio and subtitles can be made in Plex Media Manager > Preferences > Languages.

I encourage you to take advantage of the Plex Wiki and Forums, found by clicking "Support" on the main page toolbar.

Thanks i'm trying to get the subtitles working
