Hello all!

I'm trying to get the best performance out of my vmware, so, what are the best settings i can put (remember I want the closest to bootcamp quality) on my Unibody Macbook pro 2.5 4 gigas RAM.

Thanks so much

I'm new to Mac, too!

What Windows are you running, XP or Vista? And, what do you want to try to run through VMware? The gist of what I've read is that, if you want to run a demanding Windows application (like a graphics intensive game, CAD, etc.) you won't get the performance in a virtual machine that you would by booting into Windows natively, via Boot Camp; no matter how much memory you allocate to the virtual machine.

As far as allocating RAM for Vista vs. XP, most of what I've seen says to allocate 2GB if Vista and 1 GB for XP (what I am using). So far, so good but, I must confess, most of the time we have been running XP natively because my wife has been working on a project using some programs that run under Windows, and she is reluctant to try using the VM in the middle.

I have Vista set up through Bootcamp -but I use VMFusion to access windows. (can't be atrsed logging out of Mac OSX and then into Vista!

It it very sloww and chugs a bit - I only want it for PKR (3D poker software if anyone isn't familiar). I am thinking of uninstalling Vista and putting XP but have no real idea how to go about this via bootcamp.

On a PC in this case I would format the partition and then install XP over it. I only have 2GB of RAM so I think Vista is a bit much.

I had used crossover in the past - but it is not to my liking. Can anyone offer any tips on my situation?

From what I've read around the forums, you use Boot Camp Assistant to delete your current Boot Camp Partition (i.e. - Vista); then go through the process of creating a new Boot Camp Partition and install XP on it.

Supposedly Parallels outperforms VMware, so you might want to try out the demo of that. It can import an existing Fusion VM, so you'll probably want to make a copy and then convert that.

I tried it out and found it to be less stable than VMware, though. I don't use it for graphics heavy stuff, just office and other assorted work-related apps.
