I am confused on using fusion.
what is the performance difference between running a bootcamp machine and creating a virtual hard disk and running th vm on that?

Bootcamp will always be faster because everything is running natively rather than virtualised.

As far as virtualised systems go though, VMWare does a pretty good job and for anything but games, is easily good enough and certainly more convenient.

There's a million threads around these types of questions, have a nose around.
