I thought today was supposed to be the last day. The website said that the deal ended on August 7th and I'm pretty sure today is still the 6th. What's the deal with that? Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone contacted VMWare about this?

I just checked the Google cache of the webpage and it said that the offer ended at noon Pacific Time, yesterday. I could swear it said August 7th?

No, it said it would expire on Sunday and the final version would be available on Monday. So 5th and 6th, not 6th and 7th. It was a pre-order sale. It's not a pre-order when the product is available. So it ended right before the final version was released.

Yeah, I get that but I could have sworn it said something about the software being released tomorrow. Maybe I'm just crazy.

here's the Ars article:

VMware to release Fusion for Mac into the wild on Aug. 6

By Jacqui Cheng | Published: August 01, 2007 - 11:01PM CT

VMware will be selling its virtualization software for the Mac, Fusion, starting Monday, August 6. The final version of VMware Fusion will be available through a number of online stores such as the company's own website, Apple, Fry's, and Amazon, and will be available in a boxed version on shelves later this month.

"We're so excited to get this out there on Monday," VMware Senior Product Manager Pat Lee told Ars. "We're looking forward to getting the widest reach that we can, and make sure it's available wherever a Mac user wants to buy it."

When VMware first announced its pricing and availability for VMware Fusion, it said that the final version would be out before the end of August 2007. Today's announcement comes somewhat as a surprise to us Mac users, then, who are growing a little too used to Apple waiting until the last day of the month to get things out. According to Pat, the Fusion crew managed to beat their targeted general availability date by "a couple of weeks," which is surely appreciated by many of us.

Fusion offers a very attractive feature set to Mac users who are interested in virtualization. Unity with Exposé support and the ability to miniimize to the dock are two features that even Parallels doesn't quite have yet. It's also got an entirely Cocoa UI, customizable toolbars, and can run over 60 OSes on the Mac (ranging from DOS to Vista and everywhere in between). With full 64-bit support and Virtual SMP, competition is finally heating up for virtualization on the Mac.

The software will be available for $79.99, although the special preorder price of $39.99 will be available through noon Pacific Time on Sunday, August 5 for stragglers who haven't yet cashed in on the deal.

Okay, so the evidence clearly points to me being crazy. I guess I misread the date or something. Oh well, I'm still pissed. Though now I'm pissed at myself for not ordering sooner.

There was one page on the VMware site that stated the preorder offer ended on August 7th, I noticed it too yesterday when I was buying my copy. I suppose it was a typo. Everything else on the site said 12pm PDT August 5th.

It originally said that the discount would be available until August 7, but they changed the deadline to August 5 at noon a couple of days ago.

Ah yep. That's the page I saw yesterday. Well, at least I wasn't imagining things. Well, now I'm really pissed. Damn typos.

Edit: I'm talking to a support agent right now to try and get this sorted out.

Yeah I"m in the same situation as you :(. I was waiting for a credit refund and had to wait till now. Let us know what happens please, and good luck.

I was doing the live chat, and as soon as the sales agent connected Safari crashed. Yay, what a fun day I'm having.

Good News!!!

For those who were going to purchase today, you'll have to call in your order at 877-486-9273, then when the voice menu comes up do option 2, then option 1, and "explain the situation".

Ah, congrats on the good response. I was sure that VMware wouldn't be too strict if you contacted them and explained things; their customer support and conflict resolution seems to be better than with most corporations.
