VMWare Converter Standalone: 21 Hours !?!

I'm running VMWare Converter Standalone trying to migrate my old copy of Windows Vista and it started out by saying it would take 1 hour, which is great. Then it said it would take 9 hours, which sucks, but okay.

Now it says it's going to take over 21 hours!!! What the heck?

Is this typical or could something be very wrong here?

The source system has two physical drives which maybe 250 GB of information, and the converted VM is being put on an external firewire enclosure.

The time it take the converter to run is dependent on several variables: CPU speed, hard disks, size of drives/partition being converted, etc...

A typical desktop or server for me takes between 4-6 hours with the image ranging between 15-40GB in size.

With that said, I have seen situations where it took significantly longer due to hard disk space constraints or disk corruption.

If you have anti virus software running, have you disabled the real-time scanning? Have you checked to make sure there is enough disk space on all volumes? Have you checked the event logs that might indicate a problem with the system and/or disks?

Thanks for the reply! I wish I would have tried turning the virus scanner off.

I ended up killing the VM creation (which was saving to an external disk) and had it save to an internal disk instead (which I then transfered to an external disk).

It took 6 something hours to create then a lot of time to transfer, but the Vista VM is now up and running on my Mac with minimal quirks!
