VMWare Fusion + Bootcamp = Hard to open?

I'm running 10.5.1 with VMware Fusion 1.1, Windows XP SP2 on a bootcamp partition.

Everytime I want to open windows I have to open fusion, select bootcamp, then type in my admin password.

In looking through the fusion help it says you can open virtual machines directly by finding the .vmsomething file, but I couldn't find anything with the extension mention on my computer, so I'm assuming that refers to a non bootcamp setup.

Is it possible to open windows directly, without having to select it from a list, or type in my password?

You have to find the 'Virtual Machines' folder, likely in your home folder, to find the .vm file.

Double clicking that should start up the Boot Camp vm, but just because of the way Boot Camp vms work, you'll have to type in your password every time.

your boot camp virtual machine file is located in Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/crazynamedfolder/

you can drag that icon to your document side of the dock or make an alias on your desktop for quick launching of your boot camp partition... if you want a nice new icon i attached the one i use

Wow, thanks for the fast reply!

I had looked for that spot before but I checked in the root level as apposed to the user folder.

Sucks that I have to put the password each time, but at least there's one step removed now.

Silly questions here, but how do you change the icons in Leopard? In 10.4 I just used to copy/paste from the get-info window, that doesn't work now.
Is it possible to add the bootcamp partition.vm to the normal(left) part of the dock?

the copy/paste method still works and there is no way i know of putting the icon on the left side of the dock separator

Another way to minimuze the anoyance of starting VMware Fusion running Bootcamp is to leave it running in one of the Spaces windows. I seldom close mine and it doesnot mind being put to sleep each time I close the laptop and change locations. With XP SP2 you should be able to go a fairly long time between Window reboots.

You do need to release and renew your ipaddress in windows if you change network locations. A simple batch file makes that a simple mouse click.
