I'm really new to the whole virtualization scene, but which app is better for the average Mac user? I'm just looking to run a few Windows exclusive apps and low-level games.

Thanks.

hi from slovenia.

did any of you guys try to run fusion or parallels loaded with sound editing software like Wavelab 6, or Sound Forge 8 or Cakewalk or even video editing application (like Premiere 7).
how do those two players perform under audio of video stress?
any dramatic increas of cpu consuption or fan getting nuts (if you have mbp in front)?

the link above leads to comparison tests that are quite outdated.
parallels is at v3 and fusion released 2 beta (as may believing they are quite near the release candidate)
how do the last versions of both applications perform? so any of you using the latest versions with audio and video applications.

I do have mbp 2.33/2gb/ tiger with bootcam xp sp2 loaded.

my main reason i am interested in VM is the SF8 and Wavelab 6 audio editing programs that i own and that surpass peak bias, soundtrack pro, etc.
plus the obvious nero burning suite, that can burn dvd multisession with such an ease (and non of osx burning applications can not do that - what a shame HALLOO!)

best regards

even video editing application (like Premiere 7).

I would run this on the Mac side. Not the windows side. I have run photoshop and illustrator on the windows side until I purchased the Mac version. Without any hicups or lags. I increased the amount of ram and cpu's under VMware to help with this.

As far as I know, you can pretty much do most of your windows work. There are some here who use CAD under the windows envirnment without to many problems.

I would do what others have suggested, download both and try them out. Also do a search of this forum and you will find a lot questions regarding performance, apps etc....

rhett7660,
thanx for your reply.
premiere 7 served me here as an example of a heavy cpu hog application + i have final cut pro 2 on my mbp that is more "mac-kish" than adobe stuff.

i am just dwnl'ing both demo apps. and will start with fusion tests first.

do you perhaps know if the deinstall procedure for any of the 2, can do some damage to either osx or bootcamp partition or any side effects when the demo mode expires?
+ i believe that i can not have both VM's installed at the same time?

and another Q:- do both use 2 processors on vm now or only fussion?

thanx & regards

Don't forget VirtualBox by Sun Microsystems... it's free

Sun Microsystems now has a free VM program that is very good. I use it on my Mac to run virtual OpenBSD, Ubuntu and Windows Vista machines.
