Want to work on your phone from a remote location ? Well now you can. Introducing VNC server for the Iphone / Itouch. I love this software you can give someone a tutorial on how to do something on the phone and they can see the remote screen from accross the world.

VNC server can be found in Cydia.

Currently there are three ways to VNC into the the phone.

1. Over wifi IP
2. Over VFP IP
3. Using Iphone_tunnel to map port 5900 and then access it locally at 127.0.0.1

Launch your vnc viewer can be downloaded here.

Type in the Iphone IP (VPN IP, WIFI Ip, or tunnel IP)

This thing is really cool, but I can't picture for the life of me when I'll use it. Especially since you have to access the phone itself in order to accept the connection.

I suppose if you didn't need to accept the connection, and you always had insomnia running so you knew you were on wifi and could log in, then it would be useful, but I don't run insomnia 24/7, and for now you need to accept, so as nifty and cool as it is, I personally will not use it.

IS there a way to VNC into your PC?

I am currently using Logmein Service to remotely view my pc and it works but only to a certain extent like i cant type in certain areas like the browser doesnt know that its a typing box. so the keyboard never launches i wish there was a way to manually launch the keyboard.

There are a couple of non-free VNC clients in the App Store. I use Jaadu, and it works wonderfully for connecting to Mac and Linux machines. I believe there was a version available via Installer before the App Store.

Well that looks promising. How is the functionality though once you are vpn'd in on another computer? Does it work fast?

What happens when the phone turns the display off and locks?

well one use is that you can use your computer keyboard to type on the iphone. i can type fine on the onscreen keyboard but can obviously type way faster on an actual one.
