I know we dont get the handset until tomorrow but I`m so excited to get rid of my Storm I thought I`d start this early and see who else is feeling the same.

Vodafone UK users, first impressions?

i've been using my iPhone 3G on voda for over a year now.. And for the most part it works well.. 3G coverage has improved a lot over the year too.. 
It will be intresting to know how it handles data on the more superior vodafone 3g network. Jason Bradbury (Bold bloke on the gadget show) has been given the phone a day early and in his impression data is much improved when compared with o2's 3G network. He has also stated it came preloaded with vodafone apps, which would be a new take for apple? Perhaps a one off.
I would consider a switch from o2.
I jumped ship from O2 to Vodafone at the end of my contract this month, purely in order to get an Access Gateway in my flat.
I've been very impressed overall with the whole process. I don't miss Visual Voicemail one bit and it's a dream come true being able to use my mobile normally in my flat.
Out and about, Vodafone's 3G coverage seems much better than O2, but I reckon that's mainly down to contention. If their speeds remain as good once the impending herd of iPhone owners charge onto the network, then I'll be impressed.

REMEMBER, the reason why O2's data network isn't so great is due to the incredibly high volume of iPhone users on the network, especially in London. It wasn't that bad at 3G launch in Summer 2008.
Vodafone's network should cope very well at the start - but it's six months time or a years time that you need to find out about.
Vodafone are heavily promoting their Access Gateway (Femtocell) as a way of taking some of the pressure off the main data network.

Hopefully iPhone OS 4.0 will support UMA negating the need for Femtocells.
I played with this feature recently on a BlackBerry and it rocks when you're in a cell dead zone but have access to WiFi.
I have used Vodafone for about a year and have had a good experience on the whole tbh.
I would've liked VVM, but as it's something I haven't had before, it's not something I can miss. However, I do have Hullomail which is good.
If I remember correctly, there was no O2 PAYG option at launch. Maybe it will come at a later date?

True, there was no Pay As You Go option on O2 in Summer 2008 on iPhone 3G launch, it did come in October 2008. Orange did manage to launch with a Pay As You Go option.
The O2 Pay As You Go option is incredibly generous - just one single £10 top up gives you free internet and wifi access for an entire year. This also helped to contribute to the heavy data congestion that O2 has suffered.
Check your local Vodafone store tomorrow if you are getting an iPhone - some stores are opening early.
Maybe an instore pickup would have been handy, I`ve now got to sit in all day and wait for delivery.
After six hours staring out of the window (doorbell broken) I finally took delivery of my handset. What a phone! Sooooo good. I'll not go into specifics for now but will no doubt be back with a few questions.

It's not just that... O2's network wasn't that bad in Summer 2008, but it still had the worst 3G coverage and poorest backend of all the UK networks even back then... Just without the iPhone it wasn't so obvious to people.

This is one data point from one person, and I'm well aware of the statistical significance of that (ie virtually nil), but I transferred from O2 to Vodafone today and it is such a joy to get a solid 4-5 3G bars rather than very occasional 3G, slightly more common EDGE, very frequent GPRS and sometimes no data at all. The phone just seems much more responsive... Don't know what coverage I can get at home but at least I can get a SureSignal (what used to be the Access Gateway) for there...
There is no Vf branding at all which makes a pleasant change.
Re my previous post: I'm slightly inconvenienced by the lack of push email out of the box but otherwise am still extremely happy with the iPhone. Very annoyed that I can't get an iTunes account using my debit card (Natwest-Maestro) and therefore am having to wait until payday to get even free apps.

Andy, give Natwest a call. They're transitioning from Switch/Maestro to Visa Debit. I lost my Natwest Maestro recently and it was replaced with a Visa Debit.
Alternatively, you SHOULD be able to register your Maestro with a PayPal account and then tie the PayPal account to iTunes.
You could setup an iTunes account with no payment details specified. At least it will get you free apps
