Is Voice Recognition built into the iPad or is it a seperate app? I saw something called Dragon Dictate on Youtube that seemed to work very well but the few short reviews on iTunes said it was uploading all your contact info to their server. I did not like the sounds of that. Does VoiceOver do the same thing?

Separate app. Dragon Dictation works great. Was unaware of contact grabing and don't think that is true. Don't see how it would be legal.

Dragon Dictation sends your contact list to their server so they'll be ready to understand oddly pronounced names. I think they updated their app to give the option of not sending your contacts but that "feature" kept me from installing their app.

Dragon Dictation asks if you want to send your contact info. It is your choice to do it or not.

yes, you seem to have the choice of uploading the info or not. you can also change your mind later.

note also, it only uploads the contact names (for better recognition), but does not upload any other info like phone numbers, addresses, etc. To me, that shouldn't be as much a concern compared to uploading your whole address book
