I have a 2017 iPad Pro, 12.7” which I really like and was planning to wait for the 2024 iPad to upgrade.

For the last year the volume up button has been spongy. In the last two days the button has been sticking without me pressing it causing the volume to go to max without me pressing it, which is really annoying.

Does anyone have any suggestions or workarounds to disable the physical volume buttons.

I have already set the “loud sounds” option to the lowest level to reduce the pain from when the sound goes to maximum.

Bring on the solid state volume buttons…

OK, don't take my suggestion too serious:
- You could create a Shortcuts action to set the volume to a.e. 60%
- Then create an Automation based on that action that gets triggered by Sound Recognition > People > Shouting
> So the next time the volume goes to max and causes you pain, just scream out loud to reset the volume

On a more serious note, shouldn't it be possible to limit the volume when setting up a supervised (MDM) iDevice? I have not found anything online.

Thanks for the responses, I have tried some of the options above. I think what has complicated this is that the volume up is getting stuck, so and software fix to change the volume back is just getting overridden or having to repeat over and over.

I am going to risk an attempt at a hardware fix :(
