I used to control Apple TV volume by pressing physical buttons on the side of iPhone with remote widget open up on its control panel. After recent update to iOS/tvOS 12.3, however, it no longer seems to work stable, but instead only works one time when the remote is connected to the TV, then stops workings once I leave the control panel and come back. Only workaround I found so far is to directly tap new volume icons found in new Apple TV (or AirPlay 2?) widget on the notification panel. I found it quite annoying since I can no longer easily control volume while navigating remote widget.
