I have a Dell U38DW18. MonitorControl can handle brightness and contrast, but the speaker volume key override is not working.
This is did not matter on Monterey, since I always use SoundSource anyway. But that is disabled on the new OS and Rogue Amoeba does not tend to enable their stuff until release.
Just discovered SpeakerAmp on another thread. With the optional download it does the trick AND has a host of cool sound control features. It replace reqmac, which is nice but frequently crashes and has a monthly subscription. SpeakerAmp Pro features are a one time payment of 8 bucks.

Thanks for the recommendation of SpeakerAmp. I assume that, as an App Store app, it won't require reducing security as does SoundSource. If Soundsource still requires reduced security in Ventura, I'll consider switching. But then again, I also use Piezo, so I'd lose that, too. Darn, I wish there were better options.

For full functionality it requires a HAL driver. Those only load with "Reduced Security."
Not a big deal in my book. Apple is just overly cautious for people that are carelessly allowing anything to run.

Oh ok, thanks for the extra info. I've been using reduced security and of course haven't had any issues so far. But it would be good for Apple to make some official API's for sound management.

To help reduce my (unneeded?) anxiety about reduced security, I've installed the free software Block Block, which will block any installation of software in common persistence locations and alerts whenever a persistent component is added. So far, it's always been helper apps, or other components associated with legitimate installations.
