Volume needs repair.. again?

I've gotten an error message similar to this before but it's doing it again. I ran fsck and it the error didn't show up for a while ( I run this test periodically ) but it's back again? Do I run fsck again?

Yep, keep running fsck until it makes no changes.

Hopefully they're just benign errors but keep everything backed up all the same.

to do that, i just boot into single user and type "fsck -f" until it's all better right?

damn computer is brand new. im backing up when i get home and if this thing fails, i'm smacking apple upside the head

Is it a laptop? I wonder why this is happening to you. It's only ever happened to me once in all the time I've had my iBook (two years or so). Laptops are more prone to getting small corruptions and errors but they're not this bad.

Yeah, it's kind of frustrating. The performance of the computer doesn't seem quite up to par.

I doubt apple would replace the harddrive without it dieing though, even though it's under warranty.

Not that it necessarily proves things one way or the other, but is your SMART status still verified according to Disk Utility?

One of the most common ways to get errors here is if you jolt the computer (hard disk) as it's being written to. I always leave my iBook on the desk if I know the hard drive is writing away furiously.

yeah, my SMART status is still verified, and I do the same. It hardly ever leaves my desk. I bought this laptop refurb, but it was only a month old when I got it. How much could have possibly gone wrong.. seriously.

the keyboard doesn't sit completely right, the power adapter was dead to start, a key broke off the keyboard right out of the box, and now the harddrive is giving me crap.

I guess your only option is just to keep an eye on it and maintain a good backup. That is, of course, assuming these aren't benign errors in which case fsck will only have to run once and promptly tell you to bugger off. Fingers crossed, that's the case.

yeah, i suppose. I hear more sounds coming out of the harddrive/under trackpad area than I really want to, so we'll see how long this thing lasts. I didn't go for applecare if this thing is problematic, it's not going to last a year anyway.
