SO lately about every couples days or so I will turn on the AppleTV and I get no sound out of my TV.

I have to reset the box and then it works fine. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks

Welcome to the continuing joy of HDMI.

I'd like to know where to point the finger -- the Apple TV, the TV or the A/V Receiver, but each time I reconfigure, I get a different set of HDMI-related problems.

In any case, know that you're not alone.

At first I thought it was my receiver, b/c I can hear the sound on my surround sound but not on the TV via HMDI.

But another movie will work fine and if I reset that ATV then everythign works fine again

Make sure that your HDMI connection is never dropped. It goes like this:

TV via HDMI -> "You still there?" <--> "?ereht llits uoY"<- IMDH aiv VT elppA

This goes on too often for words.

Once the handshake is dropped, all bets are off. So, the easiest way to test if it's a dropped handshake issue is, change your tv out of HDMI source, i.e.: select Component or SVHS in. Whatever other sources your set can select, whether you have anything hooked up or not. Then, without having done anything on the Apple TV, go back to the HDMI source input.

If the sound reappears, voila. It's an HDMI issue.

Let me know if that works.

I'll try it next time it breaks but I don' think thats the case b/c I can play one movie and it will work fine, the next one will have no sounds unless its over the surrounds, and the next one will be fine with sound.

Hmm, I don't even think that makes sense to me......
