iPod Volume not working

on my 80g classic the volume doesnt work till like 3/4 the way up.. theres no volume lock on or anything.. it just doesnt turn down or anything once your at that mark... the only thing i can think of is i replaced the headphone jack. it was completely shot and only sent signal to one headphone so i opened it up and replaced it.. any help with the problem would be great thanks
