I got my MBP back in February(?) and for the last few months everything has worked great..until recently.

My volume just shuts off or decides not to work at any moment and we cannot figure out why. I could be listening to music one minute and the next it cuts off. Sometimes it wont work for days, so I don't have a clue what's going on with it.

Any ideas?
I haven't had any headphones plugged in.
I have tried func. and the volume keys.
Yes I have tried taking it off of mute.
I have restarted the computer.
I have done pretty much everything I know what to try.

If you open and then close Garageband, does it come back? There's a bug in OSX that needs the Audio MIDI settings reset, but it's pretty rare and shouldn't be happening often. Nevertheless, opening Garageband (and then closing it) resets the Audio MIDI settings to their default values, so give it a go next time. :)
