Voyeur - Wow, that's an... interesting image...

My app (Voyeur) just got posted to the app store yesterday. It's very simple, load it up and watch a slideshow of the most recently uploaded images to Flickr. No setup required - you never know what kind of crazy thing you'll see (and trust me, there's some "interesting" stuff out there). $0.99 in the store now. If you see an image you like, you can touch the screen to save it, visit the image's page on Flickr or e-mail a link to anyone in your contact list.

There's more functionality to come, but this was my first iPhone app - I wanted to make sure it was 100% stable for the first release. My goal was to be able to run it for a full day at work (on a charger, obviously). It will do that and more (I made it 20ish hours once before receiving a phone call).

Glad to hear that you like it - please feel free to post suggestions for the next release. #1 on my list is the ability to go back to at least one previous image. I had it mostly done when my application into the program was approved but backed it out because it wasn't totally stable. I hope to get a version with it up for approval soon.

Heh, I'm actually scouring my friends to figure out who did that. Not that it isn't flattering, but it doesn't exactly paint me in the most honest light since it certainly seems to be a plant. I'm all for reviews be them good or bad, so long as they're honest.

It's a cool app, nice idea. One photo seemed stuck for about 30 seconds though which was a bit annoying, but never mind.

Not many suggestions because I can't really think what else you can add to it without over-complicating things.

The pauses are something I'm working on. The iPhone has trouble with images that are too large resolution wise. I scale down what I can, but sometimes the image is too large to safely work with (I had a lot of mysterious crashes when I first started working on Voyeur, and this proved to be the problem). Since the Flickr feed doesn't include the resolution of the image, I have to start downloading the image and if it looks like it's going to be too big I move on to the next one. Sometimes I get a string of a bunch of really big images and Voyeur pauses like you saw while I skip through them.

There are a few options to get around that, but they're all sort of hackish and I imagine that being able to move backwards would be more important to most users.

Just bought this - its a nice simple app! Not sure if this is an iPhone issue or not but could you force the back light to stop on and stop the phone going into lock mode?

Cool looking app. Just out of curiousity, do you have a commercial Flickr API key (assuming you're using the API)? I've got my own Flickr application all ready to go, but I've been waiting on a commercial key for a very long time now.

I actually just submitted an update tonight to disable the idle sleep timer thing. Next up is the ability to go back, but UIScrollView (for you developers out there) is being a real pita for me for some reason when rotating the device. I'll get it soon, though.

I don't have a commercial key - there's actually a lot of things I'd like to do with Voyeur, but most of them require an API key from Flickr. I applied for one but they never even e-mailed me back. For now I'm stuck with the public feeds.

Tell me about it - I've read some forums on the web saying people have been waiting for commercial API keys for months at a time, and I'm getting a bit worried whether my time programming the app was worth it at all
