As I look to get a VP in the UK very soon, I have a question about Storage. I feel 256 GB might be enough, but has anyone regretted purchasing the 256 GB version, and what has contributed to your storage usage to wish you'd gone 512GB/1TB?

I never really thought about 256GB, question was 512GB or 1TB. Just as HDFan writes, there is a lot of content to download and I did not want to start storage saving actions from the beginning - so 1TB.

You can however start with 256 GB easily, if you just use the "productive" apps and watch movies you stream...

I just decided to go "full throttle" from the beginning, as I know myself - I like to keep things. 😆

It was a bit limiting at first, I pull down 4K+ HDR films and want them on the VP.

Getting the data onto VP and removing it was a pain. The OS doesn’t do a good job reporting out of space errors or even preventing attempts to transfer files that are too big.

I tried out VLCStreamer, which has an iPad app and works okay but the interface isn’t any good—iPad UX isn’t good on VP really.

But moon player has released a beta of their moon streaming app for macOS which greatly simplifies getting video to the device. No need to manage an smb or whatever.

Now you just have to have the Mac running and the media is streamable at super high quality. Moon player’s different immersion modes aren’t perfect or as good as Apple TV but they are getting there.

Windowed version fully immersed is quite good, just needs resizing. (This is on latest visionOS 2.0 beta)

Other than that the 256 seems fine to me. Only “unmanaged” large media seems to be a space limiter on VP. visionOS manages space on everything else.

I lucked out. If it would have been up to me I would have gone for 256 GB but the way it worked out on the day the pre-orders started in the US I wound up having to get a 512 GB model if I wanted to do an in-store pickup on a Saturday which was the day after the device launched here. I didn’t want to have to use vacation time to pick up the device and the nearest Apple Store is a 35 minute drive. So I went that route and got more space than I thought I would probably need but I’m glad I did. 1 TB would have been too much. 256 wouldn’t have been enough. 512 GB for me is the sweet spot.

I went with 256gb and was regretting it initially but after a few weeks of use I have about 230gb free (purchased when it dropped in Canada on July 12th).

I may still regret it but for the time being I’m fine with my storage decision.

I went 512GB and hardly use the storage. It's an experimental device/platform at this point, there isn't a whole lot of stuff you can realistically fill it up with at the moment, most experiences/movies/etc are streamed and most of my things that go beyond that and into actual work are done via Mac Virtual Display.

I'm currently using 426 GB of 1 TB. Many immersive apps require you to download the content:

Explore POV 58 GB for everything
AmazeVR Concerts ~24 GB for just the demo tracks

etc.

What’s explore POV and how is it used mainly?

I went with 512GB and I don't regret it. I usually have teh space filled up but it's just enough to live comfortably. I would have really regretted getting 256. 1TB would be nice but not really necessary.

Considering I was already investing over $3500 on it, I decided to get the 1 TB version and avoid any regrets later. Your needs may vary, but I would never recommend 256GB to anyone.

It’s available publicly available. You have to get to it from the blog post about the Vision Pro, as the regular moon link app for macOS won’t work.

Moon Player just released some more TestFlight slots. In the app information/About/ should give you the link for TestFlight.

not at all. what am I even storing on this thing? I download watch and delete certain videos. that's about it. the rest is streamed. I haven't even filled half of it. this is one of those devices that could be formatted and I wouldn't miss anything
