VPC vs Parallels: Did MS Screw the Pooch?

Does anyone here think that Microsoft has made a huge mistake by not releasing an Intel version of VPC earlier? I mean, deciding between Parallels and VPC seems like it would be pretty easy at this point. VPC is $129 w/o Windows and Parallels is only $50 (40 if you pre-order).

I know that there are still some bugs with Parallels (and there probably would be with VPC as well). They both appear to have the same functionality aside from their core function (ie: shared networking/printing/usb sharing/etc).

If Microsoft has known about the switch since June, why haven't they done a lot more work on VPC? Do you think this could seriously hurt VPC's market?

We all know that MS likes to push back release dates, but we also know that MS likes to prematurely release products. IMO, if VPC was anywhere near ready then it would already have been released.

Will this hurt VPC sales? Maybe a little, but probably not that much. VPC is known as the Windows Emulation software for Mac. Many people haven't even heard of Parallels yet.

Parallels has been getting lots of press, but I don't think it'll end up being the silver bullet that everyone thinks.

Also, if the rumors are to be believed, Apple is working on their own virtualization solution for Lepoard, in which case I think Parallels will become obsolete shortly after Lepoard's release. I can't see Parallels matching an OS-native virtualization engine.

But yea, I think MS has accidently killed VPC at this point.
