VPN timeout with MBP running 10.6.4

I have a MacBookPro running 10.6.4.
Linksys WRT54GS router -- using wired or wireless connection.
I set up a VPN/PPTP for connecting to my workplace from home.
The connection succeeds, but times out after 5 minutes.
Apple Care does not support VPN, but without it I can't use this computer from home.
Can someone help?

All the info I have found says that its an error in OS X not responding to server requests for connection status.

Do you have another client that you can use? I know the OS X client is convenient, but others might be more functional.

I figured out what was wrong. My VOIP router was causing the timeouts. Everything is working fine. Thanks.
