How much does VRAM really matter for video editing. Is RAM more important? WIll a mini be ok? Thanks DOOODZ

I'm prepared to bite my tongue here but I thought that video editing was ram and processor dependent. It isn't like you are rendering things so I am not convinced that vram would do as much...I could be wrong though.

Depends on how much video editing you are doing and what programs you are using.

If it is intense then you need a powermac

What apps are you using? Video editing is processor dependent, make sure you have a gig of ram and 2 hard drives (one for OSX, one for Videos). Graphics card isn't really going to make a difference.

I believe that your video card may make a difference if you are using Motion, but editing video footage will not be affected. If you have to make a choice, spend the money on system memory before you spend it on upgrading video memory.

Video editing will depend more on the processor than on the amount of VRAM in your system. Although a good GPU (with plenty of VRAM) and 1.5GB+ of RAM will definitely help out.

Depending on how much video editing that you plan on doing, you might want to consider a iMac Core Duo or Power Mac G5.

True, in Motion, you will want a good video card.

Nothing is worse than having a lack of video RAM on a machine, even if it is sufring and entertainment. You think what you have is great, then all at once the videos you are watching annoy you cuz the audio track is always out of sync and all those well designed flash ads are working oh so smooth in the background...

That actually has very little to do with the video card. Having 64MB or even 32MB of VRAM is more than enough for anything 2D (ie flash, most video editing, etc...).

The short answer to your question is that, if you're gonna get a mini, get the dual-core version and put at least 1.5GB of memory in it and it will be fine for anything short of professional level editing.

So a 2 Gig machine with a 64meg vram is going to perform the same as a 2 gig machine with 256ram video when you are watching xvid/divx encoded video with tons of flasturbating sites in the background?

Edit: I started laughing when I realized what a pervert this post makes me sound like =D I watch alot of indian and asian movies I download via BT...
