VSCO alternative

Hello,

I currently use VSCO cam on my iPhone to edit photographs. I really like the way this application works and the effects it offers there. Although I am looking for an alternative for my Mac so the photographs quality won't decrease. Does anyone know a similar alternative?

I tried using VSCO presents on Lightroom but it doesn't offer the same effects and features.

IMHO, the VSCO preset system for Lightroom offers much more than the iOS app as it also offers camera calibration profiles specific to your camera model however these are not perfect.

Are you looking for a simple one-click software to add effects on your photograph in a batch or a specific technique / presets to emulate that look in Lightroom?

I just don't find Lightroom really easy to use. For example on VSCO Cam you can use an effect and decide how strong you want this effect to be visible on the photograph and on Lightroom you don't have this option, you can just decide which preset to use and not change the level of it.

Actually you have much more control in Lightroom. The difference is that you can dial in exactly which part of the effect you want by using the various sliders in the develop module. Here's a 9 minute video of how it's done

Check out Exposure by Alien Skin. Not only does it have a ton of canned "film emulation" presets you might like, it has a slider control to globally affect how much processing is applied to the image. It works as a stand alone program or as a plug in for LR and PS.

Why are you losing image quality by using VSCO on iOS? I edit ALL of my photos on VSCO for iOS and I've never seen or noticed any decrease in quality from the RAWs that come out of my camera. I shoot RAW+JPEG and edit the JPEG version, keep all files for backup. It works just fine for me, the JPEGs are just as crisp as the RAWs. Although RAW support in iOS and VSCO would be nice...

You can see that when you are trying to export an image on VSCO for iOS it suggests really low resolutions which means it decreases the quality

Ummm...only if you choose to decrease the quality? I choose for VSCO to export my images at full size, which happens to be 6000x4000 for the Sony A6000. Again, no decrease in quality. Also because they're 1st generation JPEGs, you're not losing any quality through editing anyway.

How do you get to export them at full size? I usually don't have that option. Maybe is it because I have iPhone 6s?

When you choose 'Save to Camera Roll' in the menu (the ellipsis at the bottom of the screen), VSCO brings up a list of resolutions to export at. Just choose 'ACTUAL SIZE' and in brackets it'll show you the resolution of the original image. I'm doing all this on a 6 Plus and iPad mini 4, so your device doesn't make a difference. I've attached a screenshot below to show you this menu.

Does the Actual Size option crash for anybody else? My bar reaches the end and it crashes every time.

Hey, I use Snapseed. I find it more user friendly than VSCO, and it also has more tools for editing.
If you like to edit pictures manually than go for a Snapseed. However, if you prefer predefined filters, you may want to stick to VSCO.
