I'm just curious what others who went with the 2009/2010 CPU swap to a W3690 (3.46Ghz) have seen for cpu temps to compare with. I know what the thermal limits of the chip are and I'm not having any trouble with that, but I'm curious what others have seen for idle temps and high-load temps in the Mac Pro case.

Idle at 36 Celsius, hardwaremonitor tells me the individual core temps and one managed to be as low as 29 celsius, cpu diode being 36.

I personally can't tell any difference on the fans after the upgrade and I'm idling at around 36C myself. I have yet to *really* stress it for long periods though so I don't yet know the upper limits.

Thanks for the reply! Will be upgrading in one month myself to hexacore but am hoping things stay quiet (amateur musician here)

Currently 41C in 25C ambient temps. (W3680 and W3690 are both 130W chips and put out the same heat).

I easily hit 90+C on the cores if I don't ramp up the fan speeds.
