Have you tried opening your device with the Bluetooth File Exchange. Might not be the way Sony tells you to it but it would probably work. Just drop the songs onto the phone and let them copy over.

You really don't need to use bluetooth provided you are transferring MP3 files and not .m4a files.

If you plug you phone in via the USB lead, wait for the phone volume to mount. Then, any tunes you want to drop ensure they go in the file for music (MP3, Audio or whatever it is called) and make sure you have the files within that MP3 or whatever file as: Artist>Album>Song.

Without that filing system, you may encounter problems.

If you want to drag and drop straight from iTunes, try Dreamsicle.

The USB feature works fine with Macs and Dreamsicle lets you literally drag and drop your iTunes playlists onto your phone via the USB cable. It's not fast (USB 1.1 lead) but it does work. Dreamsicle will even convert m4a files into MP3 :). Superb program.

For the original question for the OP, on the Walkman interface, go into "Playlists", select "add", name the playlist then go to "more" and "add media". You can then add whatever tracks you want to your playlists.

In my experience, it is spotty. The phone will not mount on my Power Mac G5 running Tiger, but will mount on my TiBook G4 running Panther...I don't know what the rhyme or reason is exactly, unfortunately. I'm just happy I got the phone to work with iSync! :)

I can’t think why this would be happening. I’ve used a W800i flawlessly (once I understood the filing system) with an eMac on Panther, a G5 1.8DP PowerMac on Panther, and a Rev D PowerBook on Tiger and had no issues at all.

Have you tried a different USB port on your PowerMac (silly question I know but…).

The other thing it could be from is if you’re running as tripped down or custom install of Tiger?

As far as I know, SE phones work, straight out of the box with OS X 3&4.

Bluetooth is ok for transferring smaller files, but a big one (say 175MB) takes about 4o minutes from Phone to Powerbook in my experience (did it yesterday for a test).

I don't know why either. I've tried multiple USB ports, including ones directly on the machine as well as ones through a powered USB hub. From what I understand and can gather on the internet, many others are having the same issue. The difference for the w800i may possibly lie in the fact that the 800 has a removable card, whereas the 600 does not.

My Tiger install is whatever it defaults to. I didn't make any changes.

*sigh* Ah well...I still love the phone!

I've got a W800i and it's dandy.

No problems with Bluetooth, syncing with iSync (contacts and calendars fine).

Everything as it should be.

Just one problem with it is the dodgy firmware. Many don't write to the memory stick correctly, so transferring music can be hit or miss. You'll copy, say, 40 tracks, unmount the phone and there are only 12 there.

SE are releasing updated firmware that corrects this - but you'll have to use a PC!

Second the vote for Dreamsicle - well worth getting that. But if you want to drag and drop tunes manually, you need to put them in MSSEMC/Media files/Audio for the phone to see them. It'll read your ID3 tags from iTunes well enough, but playlist support you'll have to use Dreamsicle for or create them on the phone.

Good luck

PS As said above, it's USB 1.1, so don't expect the transfers in a hurry!
