Hello All,

Finally an ongoing battle with Apple has been resolved and they've agreed to replace my 2007 iMac with a brand new 27" beast as seen in email below, (the new arrivals could not have come at a better moment eh!!).

My only question is whether I should sell it up on arrival and cover the difference to get the Core i7 beast.

I'm no pro, but I do hit up CS4 and some film too, and I like to keep Macs for as long as they remain useable... so I'm thinking the i7 might be worth a look.

What do you think?

Hello D*****,

The newly released iMac 27" (MB952ZP/A) best matches the technical specification of your original product and has been ordered to replace iMac 24". The configuration of the replacement products is as follows:

iMac 27" (MB952ZP/A)
3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive
ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB
Apple Wireless Keyboard (Int'l English) and User's Guide (English)
8x double-layer SuperDrive
Apple Magic Mouse

If you would like to discuss the issue please feel free to call me on the number listed below.

Kind regards,
J****

Call that luck. What did you have before? What size screen was your 2007 iMac? I thought the largest they had back then was 20"?

What was the basis of your problem?

Sell it? Nah I think it's a fine machine and you should be happy.

I bought the 24" 2.8 'Extreme' in Nov 2007 - the first of the Alu. That C2D machine is compares well to the current C2D iMacs now, hence me wanting to go for the i7.

My machine was overheating, or so I thought. Apple tried to fix it twice, and when they couldn't then decided that there was no problem at all?!

Anyway it took a lot of calls and emails, but eventually they agreed that they'd stuffed up one way or another.

And now here it comes, 27" of gloriousness.:D:D:D

I'd like to hear the backstory on this.

I have been suffering with my 2006 white iMac for a long time now. Replaced HD, replaced screen twice. I've had it in the 'shop' 4-5 times now. When I picked it up last December, they 'thought' replacing the HD would solve the problems but it's clearly the logic board. Weird graphics issues and beachballing 24/7 to where I have to turn on/off the thing at least 20 times a day. They also scratched the case.

They really should've replaced it last time and even said so. I've been holding out for these new iMacs in hopes they'll swap or let me pay the difference to upgrade to the quad, etc. My AppleCare expires Nov. 9.

I'd like to hear your story. What was wrong with the old computer.

EDIT: I see your answer.

Did you do it strictly over the phone or did you go to the store/Genius bar?

I live in Singapore - there is no store here, just a bunch of resellers, so all was done via phone and email. Eventually I got to talk with a lady in Australia who was in charge of Asia Pacific.

I had to go hard though, I was one step out from court before they finally conceded. Guess their legal bills would have been more than it was worth.

Just quick update for anyone still reading - Apple agreed to upgrade, but no edu discount...

Core i7, yeah baby!!:D
