I’m sure this is a common type of question - should I wait for the Oct event or just buy now

Usage: Light tasks - office, e-mail, streaming, surfing

Requirements:
  • Longevity - last four years minimum
  • Desktop (I have a MBP14 that I love, don’t want two laptops)
  • Support for at least three monitors including two ASD that I already own
Current mac-mini doesn’t support my display requirements so the Studio is the only option.

Question: Should I just pull the trigger as soon as a refurb Studio hits the store or wait for the October event? Does anyone think Apple will release a better option for my needs - cheaper, more features or both in October?

Note: I would seriously consider paying up for a 27 inch iMac if it supported my three display requirement (two ASD plus the iMac) as long as it was below $3K or so. Otherwise I want to be at $1,800 (Studio refurb) or below.

My guess - Apple won’t release any better option than the refurb Studio for me. Am I wrong?

Thoughts?

It looks like new Minis (with M2 and possibly an M2Pro) will be coming out late October/early November.

Would these suit you?

Or... consider an Apple-refurrbished Mac Studio. Probably worth a little extra $$$.

I'm not expecting to see a 27" iMac for a while ("a while" = "years").

I would wait to see what a possible October release might bring...

I am waiting on a M2 Pro Mac mini...

A M2 Mac mini would be suitable for my needs to play World of Warcraft, but a M2 Pro Mac mini would double both the GPU core count and the UMA bandwidth, which would seem beneficial for getting into some Blender action...

Mini would be fine if it can support two 5K plus one 4K display - I kind of doubt they will. My guess is they will reserve that kind of functionality for the studio. But I'm curious if other people see it differently.

If Apple places a M2 Pro SoC in the Mac mini (something has to replace that Intel Mac mini from 2018 that is still available), then one could have up to three displays...

Would that be better than a refurb Mac Studio?
