If that was the case, with a computer as specialised as the Mac Pro, they should announce it. There is no point in playing magical games when peoples' livelihoods are on the line. The majority will take this "refresh" as a sign that they need to satisfy their high-performance computing needs elsewhere. If they refresh next year will there be anybody still wanting to buy? I don't work with graphics or videoy, therefore the fastest 12 core / 16 core is not important to me. The 6 core single CPU would be perfect for me, but I am not going to buy something with a 3 year old GPU, SATA II and USB 2 in 2012, even though it's a business expense. It would be an insult to my bank account.

It looks like, as long as Tim Cook is the CEO of Apple, Apple will not do anything for professional users.
I just wonder why they are bothering with all those updates for FCP X. Without the proper hardware to run on, what's the point?

This email that is apparently from Tim Cook suggests that the op may be onto something. I am going to forget about a Mac Pro for now and satisfy my needs elsewhere.

Ouch. That is just the wait for IB-E. This time the was another quarter gap for between SB-E ( i7 39xx ) and SB-EP ( Xeon E5 ) being announced. Never-mind the slow as molasses rollout of the SB-EP so far.
I don't think it would be as long as a gap as last time but there probably will be a couple of months before the full line up is out. Perhaps Intel will trade priority places though. IB-EP must come out before IB-E. That would actually make sense given how they had to special case roll out Xeon E5 parts to the supercomputer vendors because they couldn't wait this long to get going.
But still doesn't make sense holding up the Mac Pro for that.
